You know you’ve done it. You know you’ve spent more than a few waking hours wondering how your business stacks up against your competitors.

How are they spending their IT budgets? And how do your top business priorities compare?

Well, since you can’t be a fly on the wall, we have a solution that could be considered “the next best thing to being there!” Sage has developed a tool that can provide you with the insight you need to support your assumptions!

 Sage Pacer Survey

The PACER survey is a free tool that will give you the inside scoop on where you stand compared to others in your industry. Know where your current business processes rank, and turn that insight into a successful action – from running your business as efficiently as possible to growing your top and bottom lines.

So how does it work?

The survey collects information on your current state of business, how your existing processes impact your ability to meet changing business conditions, and what you see in the near horizon for your company. Your responses (100% confidential) are then compared to the average responses of a similar industry, revenue, and employee-sized peer group.

It’s as simple as that. AND, you will get a complete report sent to you on completion.

Relationship buildingValentine’s Day is just around the corner, which has us thinking a lot about what it means to successfully manage a relationship, whether it’s with a wife, a husband, a girlfriend, a boyfriend … or a customer.

Obviously, these two types of relationships are wildly different. One is intimate and loving, while the other is distant and not quite as personal. Still, just because your customers might never meet you, specifically, in person, doesn’t mean that they don’t feel a connection with your brand and want to be treated with respect, compassion and sincerity. Right?

Dealing with consumer feedback is an area where your company has an opportunity to truly shine and set yourself apart from your competition. Failing to properly address a consumer’s complaint or question, for example, can result in the loss of that customer – possibly forever. That’s why customer relationship management software is so crucial.

Managing your relationship with your significant other can be difficult enough  (at times)– and now you have to come to work and manage thousands of relationships with all of the people who enjoy your services and products? Exhausting!

Lucky for you, CRM takes a little bit of the work out of the process. That’s why major companies, such as giant financial services provider Barclays, are investing it.

“We are challenged with the complexity of cultivating millions of individual customer relationships across multiple channels, with increasing volumes of data,” said Matt Harris, head of CRM for Barclays Bank.

However, he continued, thanks to CRM “we are confident that we now have the tools for effective marketing, and we will have lowered the total cost of ownership substantially over the next three years, whilst also providing the potential to improve the value of our customer relationships.”

CRM is designed to make the daunting process of handling hundreds, thousands, even millions of customers an easier task by creating a database of information on the preferences, concerns and questions of the consumers who use a given product. With this database at your fingertips, you company will be able to take a holistic view of a customer, rather than relying tropes and generic stereotypes to try to relate.

With CRM on your side, you can provide each customer with a tailored experience and the appropriate answers to feedback and questions.

And they will appreciate that special attention ALMOST as much as your spouse will appreciate that special dinner you’re planning this weekend. You are, aren’t you?

Sage ERP Accpac 6.0A is a very exciting release for everyone in Accpac R&D. With this version we introduce our new Web Based architecture. Here we are entering the true Web World where we only run HTML and JavaScript in the Browser. All the new technologies are true zero-client installations for reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and easy deployment.

Our new framework for developing Web Based Screens is the Sage Web Toolkit (SWT) based on the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) which is a powerful Ajax based set of tools that allows us to develop powerful Web based applications quickly in the same manner that Google does. With the Google Web Toolkit we develop all our programs entirely in Java, but when done the GWT Compiler converts all the Java code to JavaScript that can run in the Browser.

Another key technology is SData which is a Restful Web Service interface. All our communications with the server go through SData which is based on HTTP (or HTTPS). This means it won’t be affected by firewalls or cause security problems. SData is a Sage wide standard and third parties can use SData to integrate with a wide variety of Sage products. This then has the additional benefit of offering a full Web Services interface to all of Accpac.

Our Web Server uses a combination of Microsoft’s Internet Information Server (IIS) and Apache Tomcat. IIS serves up static content like HTML and image files. Apache Tomcat is the Java application server and processes the SData requests. Our SData processor converts the SData web requests into standard Accpac Business Logic API call, so we use our Business Logic unmodified from previous versions.

Sage ERP Accpac 6.0A includes a new Web Portal, or Web Desktop that will be the new entry point or face of Accpac. From here you can see many KPIs that are of interest to your business.

This technology is foundational and easy to adapt to new domains. For instance we can rapidly roll out Mobile support, since mobile devices like iPhones, Android Phones and iPads all have good Browsers that can work with our Web based screens.

Similarly now that we are web based it will be easy to integrate to Social Media sites like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Quora, etc.

A key trend that distinguishes the consumer market from the business to business environment has been the ability of manufacturers to customize their goods and services to the evolving demands of the individual. Now more than ever that individualism is taking shape and driving the B2B market. We like options…and why wouldn’t we?

Options are trickling into our buying behaviour in the ERP space and in recent years more and more small to midsized organizations are looking at on-demand software opposed to the traditional on-premise. But what makes either right for your business?

Do we look at functionality vs. deployment or do we hone in on key business drivers or KPIs to drive our decision?  The simple answer is both!

Hosted Solutions:

  • Do not want to invest or support an IT infrastructure
  • Prefer to make one convenient monthly payment covering everything from infrastructure and software support to daily back-ups and software updates
  • Are in growth-mode but still want to match internal costs against fluctuating business conditions
  • Want to be up and running quickly with minimal implementation time
  • Have multiple sites or many geographic locations but do not want to build or support remote access to existing network
  • Employ telecommuters.

On-Premise Solutions:

  • Already have an ERP solution in house and are considering an upgrade.
  • Demand a high-degree of customization, have need for custom programming services, or have an investment in hosting 3rd party software
  • Are well-established and can confidently make a five-year commitment to an ERP software investment.
  • Are prepared to undergo a 10-12 month implementation process with a value-added solution integrator.
  • Have multiple sites across geographic locations and have a supporting network infrastructure.
  • Employ an IT staff who maintain ERP software system.

Where do you think the organizations of the future are migrating too? Hosted, cloud-based ERP Systems or traditional on-premise ERP systems?
